We fly through Phuket and then catch a ferry to Koh Phi Phi and stay at the Andama Legacy Resort ($100/night for 3 people).
Koh Phi Phi has a younger crowd, the weather isn’t great but it’s still good enough to swim and rent kayaks. We hike up over to the back of the island and then catch a “long-tailed” boat back. They are used as taxis here. Wild monkeys in the trees.
This island was badly hit by the 2005 tsunami and many people died. We go on a boat trip to snorkel and we visit the island where the movie “The Beach” was filmed. The hotel is so-so but we went to the hotel party to celebrate New Year’s Eve and we watch a transvestite show and the fire dancers. (Local boys showing off their stuff). Then we watch clouds of Chinese Lanterns float off into the night sky. Koh Phi Phi is touristy with a younger partying crowd and we didn’t get the great weather but we made the best of it.
