Sunday September 5th.
One week in Haute de Cagnes just back in the Cote d'Azure hills behind Nice. Wonderful house up at the top of an old medieval French village with bedroom window views across tiled rooftops and the hills of Provence. Stayed there with the three girls and Kate’s boyfriend, Nick. Shopped and cooked and also ate in the village square alongside old French guys in blue and white striped shirts playing Boule on the sand lot next to the restaurant. All so genuine it looked as though it had been constructed by Disney as a caricature of a French village. Nick and I tried to get the Renault Espace through the village archway and succeeded twice (with much shouting and half the village helping) but then gave up and left it at the bottom of the hill.
Visited Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo and spent a day at the beach at Ville Franc. Julia and Christine went to the bathroom at one point and were attacked by two very aggressive middle aged French ladies with big bosoms. Julia and Christine were in the usual ladies line for a toilet stall and the two ladies simply muscled their way to the front of everyone. Julia was already in a stall but heard her Mum react as she was shoved aside by the first French lady and so, when Julia was ready to exit she was prepared to offer her stall to her Mother and got ready as she opened the stall door and held the door frame and called to Christine. (Julia is not a small lady herself). However, the second French lady then simply but violently shoved Julia aside and pushed her way into the stall. Simply amazing.
